day at the zoo

My friend Sara invited us to the San Antonio Zoo last Friday with Payton, Cael, and Sara's mom. Emma loves animals and needed a day out so at the last minute I decided to forget writing my paper and go. We had a great day even though the weather looked like it was not going to cooperate. Right about the time we hit San Antonio, the sun came out & rain stopped.

We started by watching the zookeepers feed the elephants. That was quite exciting for Emma because she loves them. We then looked at a Giraffe, big cats, and many birds. We decided to feed the birds & that got interesting. I managed to have one land on my hand and bent down for Emma to see it. She enjoyed SEEING the colorful birds flying around but quickly realized they do not like being touched while eating. One reached out and pecked her. She screamed bloody murder and was no longer interested in feeding them. That incident made her very cautious when it came to feeding the goats, and she stated "I want to go home". Some poppycorn made things all better & we continued to look at alligators, more birds, fish, and bears.

I think her favorite part of the day was going to the butterfly exhibit. She sings this song at home "butterfwy, butterfwy, fly all day" while spinning around. We had to be very careful not to harm the butterflies, and she did great for the most part. There were so many types in all colors and sizes. These giant blue and brown ones would fly right over her head & she would get so excited watching them. I think she could have stayed there all day.
